Industries Minister off to Oslo at the invitation of UNCTAD & WIPO |

Dhaka-- (UNB) – A two-day symposium begins today (Sunday) in Oslo of Norway as part of the international organizations’ efforts to improve LDCs’ trade one year after the Seattle debacle. UNCTAD and the Norwegian government have organized the two-day symposium on “The role of the private sector in enhancing productive capacity in LDCs”. Besides, the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) in cooperation with the Portugal government will also organize a high-level interregional roundtable on intellectual property for LDCs in Lisbon from February 1-2. Industries Minister Tofail Ahmed, former spokesman of the LDCs in various international forum, left here Saturday night to attend the symposium and roundtable at the invitation from these two UN organizations. The Minister will be the keynote speaker at the symposium in Oslo. Policymakers from at least 23 least developed countries, representatives of international organizations, NGOs, bilateral donors, private sector business and other institutions will participate in the symposium. In the roundtable in Lisbon, the minister will explain the position of Bangladesh as well as the LDCs in general on intellectual property and seek specific support of the developed and developing countries in transfer of technology. |
